He was natural Samuel Wilder inside Sucha, Austria-Hungary (now Poland). His parents, Max Wilder & Eugene Dittler, were Jewish.

He began operate witharound late 1920s when film writer in Germany, but allegedly he was besides the cab dancer, so left for France, then a United States after the rise of Adolf Hitler. His mother, grandma, & stepfather a lot died at Auschwitz.
